Maryland Conservation Landscaping Field Tour

Geared toward landscaping and horticultural professionals, this all-day tour will include several sites in the Annapolis area, including the Chesapeake Bay Fundation’s green roof and native landscape and the living shoreline at St. John’s College, that will showcase low-impact development, native plants, and environmentally sensitive design.

Fee is $25 per person and includes transportation, lunch and a folder of resource materials. Make check payable to “Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council” and put “Maryland Tour” in the memo line. SITE LIST (subject to minor changes)

1. Tour will begin at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation:
Green roof
Bio-retention areas (that drain from the parking lot)
Native plant garden (front beds and Sanctuary Garden)
Native meadow
Site and building engineering (as part of tour)

2. Back Creek Nature Park (Edgewood Road) and Port Annapolis marina
Living shoreline
Steep slopes erosion control
Rain gardens
Future oyster and stormwater islands

3. Chesapeake Ecology Center:
20 native demonstration gardens (rain gardens, wildlife habitat, xeriscape gardens)

4. St. John’s College:
Living Shoreline (with oyster and underwater grass restoration)
Native plant gardens throughout the campus

5. Naval Academy Stadium (brief visit):
Stormwater/rain garden areas

6. Residence (next to Naval Academy Stadium):
Home garden with pond, wetlands
Rain barrel
Vegetable garden
Rain garden

7. Lincoln Drive rain garden and stormwater controls
(near West. St. and Chinquapin Rd.)
Urban rain garden
