Visit Lauren’s Garden Service in October for native plant sales and a screening of Hometown Habitat! The two sales will be on October 7 from 4pm – 8pm and October 21 from 10am – 1pm. The screening of Hometown Habitat will be on October 7 at 7pm.
Lauren’s Garden Service is located at 3575 Sharp Rd. in Gelnwood, MD. They carry native perennials, shurbs, trees, fall annuals, containers, and more.
The “Sustainable Landscapes Field Day at the US National Arboretum in Washington, DC was held April 23 by CCLC and was co-promoted by the Arboretum and the Potomac Chapter of ASLA. The Field Day included three different topics: the use of grasses in landscape design, stream restoration, and native plant species.
Typically landscape designers first determine their overall design direction, and then zoom in to design the details. But in an ecology-based approach, a site’s intricate environmental characteristics can and should influence big picture decisions. This two-day conference will explore crucial aspects of the native design process, beginning at the scale of individual species, and gradually zooming out to include plant community design, ecological master planning, and methods for creating sophisticated ecological designs within the context of current as well as emerging landscape practices.
